It's day 4 of #21daysinmyartworld25 and the prompt

It's day 4 of #21daysinmyartworld25 and the prompt is 'Art book'. I have quite a few art books but my current favourites are on my desk and are all about printmaking.

I particularly love the books by Alan Marshall which are full of gorgeous images by lots of talented printmakers. My latest, 'The Illustrated Garden', was a Christmas gift. As well as the artwork there are details about each of the artists, their techniques and inspiration. I've only flicked through it so far but it's a beautiful book and I look forward to taking a closer look soon.

I can't show you my 'Latest WIP', which is today's prompt for #21daysinmyartworld25 , as it will hopefully be a surprise gift. However, I have plenty of other works in progress 🙄 so here's a section of a portrait I'm doing of my husband. I can't remember when I started it (possibly a couple of year's ago), but I have a likeness that I'm worried about losing. I must get back to it though - stupid not to finish it for that reason. I'm in the mood for some painting so hoping to finish a few others soon too.

Today's prompt for #21daysinmyartworld25 by @taral

Today's prompt for #21daysinmyartworld25 by @taraleaver is 'Lesson learned'.

Last year I spent quite some time on two linocut designs. The first was 'Night hunter' (a barn owl over reeds), followed by 'Marsh harrier'. I had hoped to print the reeds and moon/sun in gold and then use further blocks for the sky and birds. I managed it with the barn owl, as the dark blue for the night sky printed over the gold, and the owl stood out in pure blue against the gold/blue layers.

However, with the marsh harrier, I discovered I couldn't print a sky blue colour over the gold ink and after several attempts I gave up and hand painted the sun instead.

It was good to experiment and these were my first proper multi block prints, so there was lots to learn - transferring the design to other blocks and getting the registration accurate, as well as the layering of colours. Not sure if I'll do more like this as I still prefer the gold acrylic paint compared to the gold printing ink and I enjoy hand painting my prints.

There are quite a few instagram challenges out there this month with lots of great prompts. I've decided to go with #21daysinmyartworld25 by @taraleaver
Let's see how far I get - my track record with these things isn't good! 🙄 But it's a new year and I'm going to try to finish things I start (or have already started).

Today's prompt is 'A favourite painting' and I've chosen a hand painted lino print - 'Strutting his stuff'. Not my most popular print but one of my favourites. It takes quite a long time to paint and I use gold acrylic for the sun, watercolour for the body of the pheasant and an acrylic medium for the iridescence on the head. I have some nice photos of a pheasant that visited our garden which I used for reference. I quite fancy doing a painting of one now 🤔
